Circular director Veterinary Medicine faculty
October 2025
Superuse Studios is the circular director for the new Veterinary Medicine faculty building at Utrecht University. The new building will not just be a modern and sustainable building – it will be a model of circular construction. On the site where the Martinus G. de Bruin building (MGB) currently stands, a new faculty building will be constructed in the coming years that literally builds on its predecessor. Not only in spirit, but also in material.
A donor building is available for this project. We are coordinating the circular demolition and ensuring that valuable building components are reused. This means that foundations, steel structures and façade materials will be given a second life in the new building.
A trial dismantling was recently carried out to investigate which components are suitable for reuse. Utrecht University spoke to Liesbeth Kooy, project manager on behalf of Utrecht University, and Jeroen Bergsma, partner and architect at Superuse, about what exactly this entails and why this project is unique in its kind.
We are proud to be part of the winning design team as circular director. Together with DP6 architectuurstudio, Vakwerk Architecten, Deerns Nederland, IMd Raadgevende Ingenieurs, and HI-PLUS TRANSFORMATIE we are taking an important step in sustainable and circular construction.
